Find Your People at Sit & Stitch

Find Your People at Sit & Stitch

Knitting or crocheting in solitude can be very calming, even meditative. Give me excellent yarn, a great pattern and maybe an audiobook, and I’m at peace. Until I drop a stitch. Or realize that I skipped an entire section of the pattern. Or find myself on Ravelry or www.ThreeCrowsFiber.com salivating over yarn.

That’s when the camaraderie of other knitters and crocheters saves the day. I’ve learned some great knitting hacks while sitting in a circle with other knitters. Or maybe I just need to commiserate over some fiddly cast on (looking at you tubular provisional cast on) or a difficult stitch like p3tbl (purl three together through the back loop, a.k.a. The Devil’s Stitch).

It’s not all about getting help though. I love showing off my work to people who really understand what I’ve put into it. Almost as much as I love seeing everyone else’s projects. And it turns out yarn people are hilarious.

In fact, Three Crows Fiber began as a simple Knit Club, where Becca taught Jeff how to knit, and Jeff taught Becca how to make a Last Word cocktail. Soon Karen was there every Thursday afternoon too. (I had to call in, but was there in spirit.) Two years and two million stitches later, Augusta gets a real yarn store.

Impromptu knitting groups pop up at Three Crows Fiber all the time. That’s why the big yellow sofa and comfy chairs are in the store. But the crows are upping their knit-in-public game with Sit & Stitch.  On Tuesdays from 5-8 pm, and Wednesdays from 10:30-12:30 pm, bring your project or your idea for a project into the shop and hang out with other yarnbirds. Or come in and pick out some yarn and cast on! A Crow will be available to help if needed. All skill levels are encouraged to participate.
