From Life in the Long Grass About us:
Life in the Long Grass blossomed from our passion for creating exquisite hand-dyed yarns and embracing the rural landscape of Ireland. After lovingly restoring our century-old derelict farmhouse, we established our dye studio near the wild heathers and blanket bog hills of Mushermore Mountain aligning ourselves with: sustainability, local employment, slow living, craftsmanship, and uncompromising excellence.
In selecting our yarns, we source from ethical farms in Ireland, England, Uruguay, Peru, Argentina, France, and Portugal. These farms adhere to mulesing-free practices, ensuring the humane treatment of their sheep.
Our dyeing process is characterized by meticulous precision and dedication to achieving quality, all while relishing the method. This commitment guarantees consistency across our dye batches and permits us to savor the unhurried, stress-free art of crafting.
Our studio is an inviting, well-lit environment intentionally designed to welcome lots of fresh air, fostering a comfortable workspace for our team of dyers and packers, our studio cat and two dogs.
We employ a blend of non-toxic acid dyes, low-impact fiber-reactive dyes, and natural dyes, and we utilize a food-grade setting agent for finalization. Our double-setting procedure ensures the prevention of color bleeding, and our water is thoughtfully recycled to minimize waste.
Our dedication to sustainability extends to our packaging and labels, which are crafted from recycled kraft paper, with our publications following suit by utilizing recycled paper. We offer a wide range of yarns, including both superwash and non-superwash varieties, woolen spun and worsted spun catering to a diverse array of preferences and needs.
